I loved that Dan finally finds another happily ever after, he deserves one after what happened to him in the first book. And Penni is a strong woman, who is a good match for him. I'm looking forward to Z and Chelsea's story. They are off looking for the mystery man pulling all the bad guys strings. And Ozzie. He's recovering but still not the same. I'm really hoping his is a happy ending, (and not with who it looks like he's being set up with) I miss the old Ozzie.
But this story was really slow. It seemed to focus more on Dan and Penni reconnecting, and the secrets they were each keeping than the usual breakneck speed the other books in the series followed. They didn't actually come into contact with their target until about half way through the book. And for a few chapters, the pace picked up and was exciting. But catching the ex CIA agent turned traitor was very anticlimactic. The secondary bad guy, was almost as bad.
It was almost like the author needed to throw something in between Dan and Penni's drama, to try to satisfy the suspense/thriller aspect of the book. It just didn't live up to the other books in this series. - If you like romantic suspense with super sexy, passionate scenes that make you squirm a little while reading, you must read Too Hard To Handle by Julie Ann Walker. She will have your heart racing one minute and melting the next. It’s a wild ride with the main characters, Dan and Penni. One you won’t want to miss!
I didn’t get the chance to read Dan and Penni’s intro in past stories (Walker sets all heroes/heroines up in prior books in the BKI series) but I do remember when Dan lost his wife and that was unbelievable and heart breaking. I couldn’t imagine how Dan was going to heal and move on but am so glad for Penni! The easy going way between Dan and Penni is refreshing in romance when you have to build up a conflict at some point between them. This one was great. I was a little bummed how quickly Penni put the breaks on between her and Dan but I probably would have felt the same way in that situation. The ending, however, was perfect.
As with all of the Black Knights books, the camaraderie between all the guys is just awesome. They know when to joke around, when to call each other on their stuff, and when to buckle down and get to business. It’s like coming home when I read one of these books! In Too Hard To Handle, we are also treated to Dagan and Chelsea’s budding romance. I look forward to reading their story because it’s going to be a feisty one. If you like romantic suspense, give the Black Knight’s series a read. While each of them build off of one another you can pick up any book and find enjoyment reading it as a stand alone. - Julie Ann Walker has become my go to author to buy all things Black Knights Inc. I love her writing style. She writes about very alpha men and the women who tame them (at least a little). And.... now I am emotionally committed to her new series The Deep Six. You can never go wrong with her books.
Too Hard to Handle is the 8th installment to the series and stars Dan 'The Man' Currington. Of course we have met Dan in previous installments, and sadly in one of them, his wife dies at the "compound" after a break-in at the front gate. Now 2 years later he has starting to put the pieces of his life back together after he had drowned his sorrows at the bottom of a bottle.
We get to know Penni DePaul better in this series. In a previous installment, Dan and Penni, a Secret Service Agent, had a one night stand after a bombing took place. Dan is now in Peru and has been for 3 months. His mission is to find an X-CIA agent selling classified government secrets, (silly, all someone had to do was hack into Hillary Clinton's server and get what they wanted..... Sorry, lost my head).
Penni has resigned from Secret Service and went to Chicago to the compound looking for Dan. Penni thought she had a connection with Dan, but since he has not called her, she must go to him. After she finds out that he is in Peru, the team encourages her to go since there has been no action or locating the X-CIA agent for Dan and his team mate in 3 months. Penni does go to Peru because she has a secret to tell Dan that will change both of their lives.
As soon as Penni arrives, action starts with the X-CIA and a Terrorist that puts all their lives in danger. The attraction and passion is still sizzling between Penni and Dan and they act on it, even if it is one last time for Penni. As the terrorist gets his hold on Penni, she begs him not to kill her and spouts out her secret in front of Dan. With the capture of the Terrorist, the President wants “Rock†to interrogate him BEFORE the CIA gets him.
With the mission a success Penni insists she go back to D.C. She only wants forever love and not if the “secret†forces them together. Dan can't give his heart to another. What if something happens to Penni, he would never survive the lost. But, wants to prove to her his love, but how can he do that when she won’t let him capture her heart.
This is a great story, at times you will be sitting on the edge of your seat, and the next you will experience the attraction, attraction and Love that Penni will not believe in. Don’t miss this book. If you haven’t read the others in the series, you won’t regret getting them and reading them all.
