- I think I regret, just a little bit, some of the five star reviews I've awarded. This book was such a journey, with so many moments to pause and consider how it applies to myself, that I find myself wishing I could heap greater praise upon it.
Home is something I've never had a perfectly good definition of, and having grown up in a place many deem as miserable as Shetland, Aberdeen, I feel connected to this writing in a pleasant but unusual way.
My father also died recently, though I had a handful of years more to understand my father as an adult. Though I was still just barely on the cusp of understanding him fully, I hear the yearning of this author and better appreciate the years I had with mine.
Very good. Can't recommend this book enough. Will tell my friends all about it. - All the history and descriptions were vivid and really take you there but the chapter on Siberia, it seemed to be written by another author. It seemed to speak only about when he had been there before and then jumped to St. Petersburg
